Photographed by Henry Barwood
Tiny yellow ball of gaidonnayite on feldspar and aegirine from the 3M Big Rock Quarry, Pulaski County, Arkansas. The late Art Smith first showed me these and asked if they were zircons because of the high refractive index. I ran powder XRD on some and found that they were gaidonnayite. The gas cavities frequently contain examples, but their tiny size also causes them to be overlooked. FOV is about .5 X .4mm. Imaged with a Canon 40D, 23mm Nikon objective and 300mm Canon FD telephoto in a tube configuration and stacked using Combine Z software.
